Met christev and geminiscorp in Chicago last week. You, girls, were wonderful! We had a great dinner together with fine food and extraordinary company. Thank you for making my stay such an adventure.

Any one in Chicago this Friday/Saturday?

Posted on 04.06.2012 at 21:53
Dear Fangirls,

Would you meet with me in Madison, WI on Thursday afternoon or in Chicago, IL this Friday 6/8? Or Saturday morning?

I'm in the US for the second time since joining the HP world, and I'd love to meet you!

Thank you, condwiramurs for the wonderful gift!

And a big thank you to the exchange mods for making this all possible, for allowing us to play with our favourite characters in this round.

All readers, I loved your reviews for my story, Outback, and I'm deeply grateful for your comments. It was amazing to receive them.

On a personal note - the (arguably) most difficult week of the year is nearly over and so far I achieved faked competence enough to ace it. One more talk, two more meetings, good-bye party and the week will be DONE.

Going to disappear for a time

Posted on 15.11.2011 at 22:25
Last month, I posted that I was tired with all the strain RL was trying to pile on me. There were a few tick-marks that got checked since then (like children's surgery, public talk, one of the many workfics was successful in the review, great times with the class), but the tiredness upgraded to exhaustion. I'm going to disappear from around here for a while. Maybe until Christmas, if I can stay away that long.

In case you might miss me, here are some stories I wrote to stay happy this autumn. Thanks to the mods of the challenges and to my betas for their help; and to everyone, who read and even reviewed. Your support was phenomenal in holding the energy drain at manageable levels.

Title: Blah
Rating: MT for language
Characters: Hermione, Draco
Summary: Hermione turns the potions lab at the Malfoy Manor into a research facility to establish what’s wrong with coffee. When she figures it out, Draco finds himself with a business plan he hadn’t expected.
Prompt: A determined search for the perfect cup of coffee leads to an even more satisfying discovery.

Title: A Cat in a Pack of Toms
Rating: PG
Characters: Molly Weasley, Xenophilius Lovegood
Summary: The Weasleys engaged Luna to rehearse a stage musical, never before seen in the wizarding world. But the wizards are not understanding, and Molly hides from the backlash at the Lovegoods.
Prompt: A reality programme, Oddities of Ottery, feeds wizarding Britain's appetite for scandal.

Title: It's The Intent That Counts
Rating: G
Characters: Severus, Sybill, Mundungus, Neville
Summary: Everybody knows Snape’s dead. Why is he standing in front of the Wizengamot then?
Prompt: An unseen presence unsettles the denizens of Diagon Alley.

Title: Enemies in Distress
Rating: PG
Characters: Draco, Harry
Summary: Draco, Harry, forced partnership and a book.
Prompt: Someone takes creative liberties when writing their memoirs, royally ticking off the other "characters" in the story.

Title: Bones Of Our Fathers
Rating: PT
Characters: Hermione, Draco
Summary: “Granger, how can you be so ignorant of your own world? It’s the house-elves all over again!”
Prompt: bones

See you soon!

Find it here.

It's a beautiful art depicting one of the scenes from my story Magic In Your Veins. The author captured the essence of what I hoped to achieve with my writing, but it's meaningful even if you haven't read the story. Her characters are torn, yet they push through to what must be done. There is tenderness between them that contrasts with their deeds, and it reflects spiritual intimacy between Severus and Hermione. The artist's impact is very strong.

Check it out and leave the artist some love. Her picture is captivating and emotional.

Dear SSHG Exchange Author/Artist,

In case my gift posts till the end of this week, I might not be able to enjoy it right away. I'm going on a business trip, and although I hope for internet access, there might be none. And although I fervently wish for leisure time, there might be none of that either.

So, if the gift posts and I don't squee, please note that it's because I'm gone.

Thank you,

The Animagus Potion for shiv5468 is an illustration for Shiv's last year's peacock story. It is drawn in style of Mucha's posters with careful lines and balanced shadows. What captivates me in this art, except for zoological perfection of the peacock morphology, is Hermione's look. She is poised, and very obviously hiding a secret. Between the two "men" that surround her, she is the one with all the power.

Earth and Water for rivertempest displays a playful scene, yet it is incredibly strong. The scene itself is dynamic, drawn with energy that must be magnificent on the original and some of it comes across the screen, too. It defies logic and moves. It makes me wish I could hang the painting in my bedroom. And not because the pair is nude.

Preparation is the Key for missmah features new magic, innovations and research founded in experimentation. In this story, there are spreadsheets, numbers and analyses. To top all scientific awesomeness of the story, it took a tiny canon detail (Severus's buttons) and twisted it into a crucial centerpoint of another. Yes, Lord of the Ring comes to mind with its genealogy of the One Ring. The fellowship of two embark on a journey to each other's heart through mutual respect, witty dialogue and temptation. This story is a favourite of mine already.

Bitch's Brew for _odella_ is a disgusting horror that stands proud in comparison to Wasting Away by death_ofme or The Flesh Menagerie by absolute_tash . It is gruesome and difficult to stomach, yet irresistible in its gore. Character motivations are crafted here with precision that holds everything together and moves the plot forward. Relentlessly through what must be done. Hermione gets to a point where Stockholm Syndrome starts to draw her in, but it's done tastefully and respectfully. I can't believe that I used those two words in description of the story, yet they fit. If you can stand a disgusting horror, this story will be a joy to read for you.

The Power of Suggestion for cabepfir is a story that revives originality in finding suggestive ways how to make our ship happen. Hermione is injured in this, causing her mind to mix reality with fantasy, and she acts on this semi-fabricated life. It gives her sweet presence, and she turns into a force that can create options where none existed before. I liked the possibilities in this. A chance.

Editing, the nata style

A week before the SSHG Exchange deadline, I finished writing my story. Yet, I asked for an extension that was generously given by the wonderful, amazing mods.

What did I do to the story over the last three weeks?

88% of all words remained.

12% of the story was either deleted completely or replaced with more suitable text.

New text that appeared first in the edited version represented 49% of the length of the finished first draft.

The version that hopes for final approval from my beta has 136% word length of the original.

When I compared the two documents, I loved two paragraphs. One was six lines long, and the only words that remained untouched in it were 'I thought'. The other was five lines long and retained 'managed to'. They pretty much sum up what editing means for me and how truly crappy my first versions are.

Now I hope the story would fit my giftee and she would like it at least a little bit.

Looking for a beta

I'm looking for a beta for my SSHG Exchange.

The story will be <10k long and might not be suitable for those who saw the last HP film in Chicago.

Known issues:
- English as a second language
- Need to pinpoint places where emotions need to be input
- Need to assess scene suitability

Dear readers,

I humbly apologise for not replying to your reviews of the last chapter of my story in the Summer 2010 round of SSHG Exchange. It was not intentional and I thought I went through all reviews. Alas, I was wrong. My online life suffers from gaping holes and irregularities that your reviews have fallen into. I'm sorry to have not responded for a year.
